Privacy policy

How HeartChat and AIDMH collect, use and protect personal information.

This policy explains how AIDMH (Australians for Intersectionality & Diversity in Mental Health), run by Mental Health of Australia Inc (ABN 34 716 206 271), collects, uses and protects your personal information. HeartChat (heartchat.com.au) is a project of AIDMH. In this policy, “we” and “us” mean AIDMH. We follow the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), the Health Records Act 2001 (Vic) and the Privacy and Data Protection Act 2014 (Vic) where they apply.

What we collect

You can search HeartChat without telling us who you are. We collect the details you give us when you fill in a form, send a message, list your practice, sign up for news or contact us. This is usually your name, email, organisation and your message. Please do not send us private health information through this website.

How we use it

We use your details to run the HeartChat directory, pass on messages, reply to you, send the updates you asked for and improve our work. We do not sell your information. We only share it with others when you agree, or when the law requires it.

Extra details for the HeartChat directory

  • If you search: our server keeps standard web logs. Your shortlist is kept only on your device.
  • If you message a professional: we pass your name, email, phone (if you give it), preferred language and message to that professional, and keep a copy so they can see it on their listing page.
  • If you list your practice: we collect your contact details, registration details, profile details, photo, payment records, and the languages, faith and communities you choose to share. Faith and cultural background can be sensitive information. We only collect them with your consent, when you add them yourself, and you can remove them at any time.
  • We do not collect professionals’ details from other websites or registers to make listings. Every listing is created by the professional, apart from profiles moved from the old HeartChat, which those professionals agreed to publish. They can claim, change or remove those profiles at any time.
  • Numbers: we count profile views and clicks so professionals can see how their listing is going.

Services that help us run the site

Our website is hosted by WP Engine. Payments are handled by Stripe or PayPal, who do not share card details with us. If you choose a language from the language menu, Google Translate processes the page text so it can be shown in your language. Some of these providers may store data outside Australia.

Keeping it safe

We store information securely and only keep it for as long as we need it.

Your choices

You can ask to see or correct your information, remove your listing, or unsubscribe at any time. Email hello@heartchat.com.au or connect@aidmh.org.au, or write to AIDMH, 538A Murray Road, Preston VIC 3072. Professionals can edit or pause their listing at any time from their listing page. If you are not happy with how we handled your information, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au).
